Keynote Speaker

We're pleased to annouce that Andrew Odlyzko will be the keynote speaker at IPTComm 2009.

Title: Network evolution, network economics, and network innovation

Abstract
Technology is leading to a convergence of wireline and wireless communication, opening up vast new possibilities for novel services. The extent to which this potential will be realized will depend on technical innovation as well as on the economics and regulation of the industry. Unfortunately there are many false dogmas that are hobbling progress and will need to be overcome.

Short Bio
Andrew Odlyzko is engaged in a variety of projects, from mathematics to security and Internet traffic monitoring. His main task currently is to write a book that compares the Internet bubble to the British Railway Mania of the 1840s, and explores the implications for future of technology diffusion.
He has written technical papers in many areas of mathematics, communication, and computing. He has also done extensive research in electronic publishing, electronic commerce, and economics of data networks, and may be known best for an early debunking of the myth of Internet traffic doubling every three or four months and for demonstrating that connectivity has traditionally mattered much more for society than content.
