Travelling to Munich
• Nearest airport: MUC (Munich/München).• Nearest long-distance railway station: München Hbf (Munich central station)
• Please check http://www.bahn.de for train connections.
Here is information for travelling by train to Munich from other locations in Germany.

Travelling within the Munich area
• Go to http://www.mvv-muenchen.de to look up underground lines (i.e., U- and S trains), buses, tramways, etc.• We recommend buying a day ticket for the zone “München XXL” which costs EUR 6.70, which is valid in central München as well as in “Garching bei München”.
• Note, however, that this ticket is not valid all the way to the airport. If you need a ticket that includes the connection to the airport you need a “Gesamtnetz-Tagesticket” (a day ticket for the whole network) which costs EUR 10.00.
Warning: The majority of the MVV tickets that come out of the ticket machines do not carry a stamp—thus you have to put a stamp before you use it. You should do this using the small blue boxes at the entrances of the underground stations, within the tramways, or within the buses. When in doubt, validate your ticket (also called “cancelling” your ticket—a rather misfortunate translation from German): Riding a public transport with a ticket that has not been validated this way is the same as riding with no ticket at all.
Airport to Central Munich
Getting from the airport into the city centre is straightforward. Take either an S1 train, an S8 train, or an airport bus. The train ride takes about 40–50 minutes to the city centre, trains leave about every 10 minutes.Airport to Garching
• Going from the airport to “Garching bei München” with public transports can be somewhat inconvenient, especially after 8pm. Please check here for an appropriate connection at http://www.mvv-muenchen.de.• The best connection is: take an S8 train. Get off at Ismaning. Take the 230 bus to Garching. If you want to come to the Garching campus, get off at “Garching Boltzmannstraße” (otherwise get off before that stop). Boltzmannstraße is right in front of the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum; the larger computer science building where the meeting will take place is right behind it.
• If the connection that you find using this web site (http://www.mvv-muenchen.de) is too complicated for you, please check the taxi information below.
Central Munich to "Garching bei München"
• If you are staying in one of the hotels in “Garching bei München” you can easily take the underground line U6 to go to Central Munich (Check here http://www.mvv-muenchen.de). The journey takes 20–30 minutes.• Please note however, that the U6 commutes only every 20 minutes during the day. In rush hour (between 6:00 and 9:00 am.) it commutes every 10 minutes. So this should be more convenient when you go the meeting in the morning.
Going to the LRZ building (where the meeting will take place)
• You need to take the underground line U6 to “Garching-Forschungszentrum” which is the last stop at the north side of the U6 line.• When you go off the train, follow the signs “LRZ” towards the stairs at the end of the train, and go upstairs to leave the underground station. The “LRZ” building is located after the “TUM Informatik und Mathematik” building. When you leave from the underground station, it should be at your front/right hand side.
• Once you are in the building, turn right to the room HE 009.

Taxi information
• To get to the Airport we can call you a taxi. If you are staying in one of the hotels in “Garching bei München” this costs EUR 34.00. If you are staying in a hotel in Munich, this will be more expensive. In that case, we recommend taking the S1 train or S8 train, which takes you to the city centre.• If you would like us to order a taxi for you, please send a mail to Oberschmidt@net.in.tum.de or come to the LRZ reception desk.
